Welcome to Twenty10 and Friends, a self care edit to you from our staff, volunteers, and pals around NSW! This is a chance for us to let you know about nice things we’ve been watching, reading, listening to, eating, and doing while we’re all in lockdown.

Today’s post comes from our social media and communications person Dina – we hope you enjoy their picks!

Games: Free games at Epic Games

Video games are a fun hobby – but gracious they are expensive over time. Never fear, though… Epic Games offers a free game every week (sometimes more than one, too)! Some games I’ve downloaded for free that I enjoyed include Faster Than Light and Offworld Trading Company, although the free game changes every week, so you never know what to expect.

Podcast: Mission to Zyxx

How to describe Mission to Zyxx? It’s a long-form improv space opera where our heroes Pleck Decksetter, Dar, C-53, and their sentient ship The Bargeran Jade travel around the furthest reaches of the galaxy and meet weird bug creatures and stuff. Still with me? If you’re going to listen to this one, start from the beginning or else you will be extremely confused. (Bonus: one of the characters is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns!)

Watch: The Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds (ABC iView)

I’ve just started watching The Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds and it’s so adorable! Preschoolers have such an interesting perspective on the world, and older people have a wealth of wisdom. I’m interested to see what effect they have on each other.

Music: ANOHNI – Hopelessness

This album is a few years old now, but it’s raw and political and heartbreaking in the best kind of way. Also, Anohni is a trans woman, and trans women are great!

Read: Ancillary Justice by Anne Leckie

This remarkable series touches on themes of individuality, gender, political oppression, and the interface between technology and humanity. Set in a far future where humans have spread across the galaxy, the book follows Breq, a former AI now trapped in a human body, in her quest for revenge. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to give it all away! You can read the first chapter of the book here.
