Thank you so much for your interest in our Community Connector program. This was a NSW Health funded initiative which wrapped up on 30th June 2022.

Please contact us if you would like further information or updates on future training programs like Community Connector.

Twenty10’s Community Connector Suicide Prevention program provided training and support for people to identify, intervene and connect to support someone who is thinking about suicide, and help build suicide-safer communities. Twenty10 was funded specifically to provide this training and tailored support to LGBTIQA+ people and people closely connected to supporting and working with LGBTIQA+ communities, as part of the Community Gatekeeper Training Initiative by NSW Health.

About the program

Within this program, we offered:

  • START – a 90 minute online course that introduces you to basic skills to respond appropriately to someone thinking about suicide, and help to keep them safe.
  • safeTALK – a half-day face-to-face suicide alertness course, that trains you to recognise when someone is thinking of suicide and respond to connect them to resources to help prevent suicide.
  • ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training): a 2-day face-to-face skills focussed workshop that supports participants to carry out life-saving interventions – suicide first aid – for people with thoughts of suicide.
  • ASIST, safeTalk and START are internationally recognised training programs developed by LivingWorks. Please note that safeTALK and ASIST workshops can only be provided in person, not online – START is the only online option in this program.

While this program is currently no longer offered, any organisations or community groups interested in this training should contact us for future updates on training programs.

What participants say

Essential training for all our community members to provide peer initial aid for other members of our community. This is a life skill that everyone, specifically LGBTIQA+ community should obtain.

I feel the course was beautifully tailored to create a safe space that moved at a pace that was perfectly times to move the groups attitudes towards suicide. There was warmth and safety at every turn on a tricky subject.

ASIST participant, November 2019

The trainers were amazing! So good to have trainers that are a part of and understand the LGBTIQA+ community.
